  Author Kathy Morgan hosts the Horse Tales show on our local community radio station in Shaftesbury, This is Alfred. I lost my beloved Brandy in 2022 and so Kathy asked me if I would be willing to come and talk about grief, bereavement and what it can be like to lose a horse, or other animal, from a personal perspective and with my therapist's hat on.
  
  There were moments of emotion, moments of laughter and a wonderful sharing of the highs and lows of loving animals. We also talked about how the loss of animals, and grief in general, really needs to be talked about and shared more openly and more often. It was an honour and privilege to share my story about my beloved girl. When an animal dies we can often feel we shouldn't be so upset as it was 'just an animal' but the loss of our beloved creatures can run as deep as any other grief.
  
  Please note: we do touch on areas of loss and the practicalities of a horse's death that some might find upsetting.
